Sorry if this has been posted before - I did see the pin on Betta tankmates but nothing about my question. If there is one, please direct me there or if not, here's my question: my HM is very hyper and has been chewing his gorgeous finnage. Finally it is almost grown back - I have a few things in his tank - he's in a 5 gallon filtered/heated tank. If I place a divider in the middle and shut off the filter (do more water changes of course) would it be a good or bad idea to put a female on the other half of the tank? I've read several posts where people say they place a female next to the male's tank. Wasn't sure if it would be ok to just divide tank, with male on one side and female on the other. Thanks guys!

Yeah, he should notice her, and if you are careful, you could breed them. My sisters male betta died recently, while I was away. But maybe he will stop chewing on his fins. Do you have any plants? Maybe he's nervous.

just make sure that there is no way they can jump or slip though the divider in anyway

It's pretty sturdy - he tried to nose his way around it to get where the filter is, with no success. He eventually gave up.

There are plants, clay pot and large glass shiny balls in his tank.
