At long last I finally found some female dwarf gouramis along with the males. Needless to say, I bought two of them and one male. They are called Royal Red Dwarf Gouramis.

The male is an orange red color with a bit of turquoise blue on its dorsal fin. The females are a lovely silver and faint stripes are visible. They appear to be young and are perky as can be.

Those of you who frequent the Gourami forum know that I have been extremely annoyed at not being able to buy females and have refused to buy the males alone. That's why I'm so happy to have found them. Perhaps I will try my hand at breeding gouramis again in the future. :D

Inch i know how u feel about finding female dwarfs is the same in the UK

Just make sure u got a brine shrimp hatchery  u must remember my old thread.

good luck

What do you mean stroniumdog about a brine shrimp hatchery? I have a female and a male dwarf gourami (when i saw her i snathed her up immediately) and i have to say that he was not very nice to his girlfriend in the beginning but I think they're growing on each other.

Thats why I'm not getting my flame gourami a girlfriend or two, because I reckon he would be nasty to them all the time.

It seems that I'm not having very good luck with them. :-(

Two days after I bought them I found the male dead. There was no sign that anything was wrong with him ahead of time, and no sign of any marks, etc. on him after he died.

I returned to the lfs and bought 3 more: another female and two males this time.

Yesterday morning I woke up to find one of the females dead. Again no indication of what could be wrong with them.

They appear normal in every way. They are eating and acting normally and there is no sign of any disease. I added a bit of salt, but hesitate to do anything else without knowing what specifically to treat them for. :dunno:

I'm going to be very disappointed if I lose them after waiting so long to find pairs of any of these fancy gouramis. :X

Did you acclimate them properly? Do you know what the water's like at the LFS? Maybe it was shock since they died almost immediately.

Hi sylvia :)

No, I doubt that it was shock from the changing water. As usual, I floated them and since the lfs they came from is only a mile away, they get their water from the same source as mine.

They are a very reputable independent lfs that has been in the same location for many years and I usually do well with their fish. Of course, there is no telling where the fish came from and what they went through en route, but there is no sign of bacterial infections or ich. They look great.
