So, I was over in Michigan today and at the Walmart over there, they have 4 little female Bettas about an inch and a half big. They were all white, and a couple had red fins. I know without a picture, it's hard to tell what they are or what they may look like...

How old would they be (approx) at that size? And I'm really debating on going back over to the States to get a couple :look: They actually didn't look as unhealthy as Walmart fish usually do...PLUS, I picked up a complete 10 gal tank (filter, lights, gravel, heater) for $29.97 USD. Incredibly cheap compared to what we have in Canada. So they could live in there because my other female is about 3x their size and I wouldn't trust her not to kill them

Another question...I'm assuming white is a recessive gene? Would these little white or white and red females make some good looking babies with any of my current boys? (I have pics in other threads...won't post more here lol)

Should I go get some? I have a splitter for my current 10 gal, so I can let my new tank cycle and keep the girls in there  Why did I have to get a new tank?! lol

The fish that I have seen in places like Walmart are fairly young like only 6 months old or so. Mature females are not very common there. As far as buying a colour that you like, that's why they have them.
As far as breeding, you really need to read up on it. A betta spawn can run to hundreds of fry which is no big deal at first. After a few weeks, not months, you will need enough eparate containers for all the males to have their own. Do you have the room and time to store, feed, do water changes, etc. for a hundred jars each containing a male betta? How long would you be willing to do so? Do you have a place all lined up who wants whatever bettas you breed?
I would just get the bettas that I like and enjoy them but if you must breed them, do your homework first.

Oh geez no. I don't plan on breeding ANY time soon!! lol It's just something I'm looking into. I'm going to make sure I know every possible thing I can before I even think about starting.

I do have the time, money and jars for the fry. I've got quite a few tanks, some empty big ones and I'm best friends with a pet store owner in my town. She has already said she would take any babies if I do plan to ever breed. But like I said, that wouldn't be for a long time...if I do plan to.
