Hey guys,
I lost my male platy this week and I've now noticed that the female he'd paired up with has taken herself off into isolation. She's just hanging around by the filter. She is eating and the other fish keep going up to her but she refuses to come out, just darts forward to chase them off then resumes her position.
I don't think she's sick, I think she may be pregnant but I'm not certain of that yet. My question would be do I go get her another male? I know fish don't think like us humans but she really seems to be missing him.
I have 14 of their babies in my smaller tank, this is why I'm unsure of what to do. There will undoubtedly be a male among them but it will be a long time until mum and babies can be re-introduced (possibly a couple of months maybe) and is she likely to pair up with one of her own offspring anyway?
I know this seems like a silly question but I am really unsure of what to do right now so thought I'd ask everyone here
Cheers guys
