Hi all, my pair of platy have been fine for about a week now, the male is very active swims about up and down esp at night time. The female, I have noticed the last few days has been "eating" the cabomba plant I have. The males not really bothered, he just swims around her but she seems to love this plant. Is she maybe lacking in something? She looks like she is getting fat aswell, when I put the food in, she is right in there, she eats so aggressively lol. Is something wrong with her?
Thanks

My platys pick at the plants all the time, could be snail eggs or algae they're eating.
I don't think it's anything to worry about
If she's getting fat, could be she's pregnant as she's in with a male

Oh thank goodness for that. Yes that make sense actually-I found 2 orange snails in the tank yesterday and a black one today!
Thanks for the reply.

Sorry I didn't see the last bit of your post until after I replied! She used to be smaller than the male, length wise. Now she is the same length as him and i'm sure she's getting fat. Could just be growing :)

If she's been with a male, the likelihood is that she's pregnant

My boyfriend thinks I am imagining things.
This was her when I first got her, a bit of a blurry pic but she is quite slender.

I have also been observing them whilst uploading and typing this and the male is hitting his side off the gravel? The female is copying him and they are side by side on the gravel. They do follow each other around a lot and rarely leave each others side.

If she has been with a male there is a 60% chance she is prgnant. There is a chance she 's not. none of my platies have been pregnant and they have been with a male for months now. Also the female looks kinda sick :/ is she young?

I'm not sure how old she is I got her from the pet shop with the male. She used to be smaller than the male and now she is the same length as him and they are both very active.
How can you tell she's sick?

Guppyz, These are Variatus. They are a little longer and thinner than regular platies. I have some Variatus myself. They look about the same and are healthy. Ny82, you might test your water to be sure the "flashing" off the bottom is not due to poor quality water.

As creeker suggested, check your water parameters and keep an eye on your fish. Frequent flashing (rubbing on the bottom) is not normal behavior for healthy fish.

That makes sense, thank you. I had a regular platy that looked like that before she died. My bad.
