Hi my orange platy has been acting rather strange, today i have noticed her hiding under the bridge and behind the pump, i assumed she may be pregnant she is rather plump but i dont know what i,m looking for with a gravid spot, as she is a dark orange colour. i put her in a breading box still in the tank to see if she was ready to give birth, nothing has come as yet just a white poo from her very fine, a tonight put her back in the tank but wasnt a good idea as the male platy and male swordtail wouldnt leave her alone, why all of a sudden are the males chasing her as they have never like this before? can anyone help? thanks x

If she is pregnant and ready to give birth then the males will give her a bit more attention so that they can be the first to mate with her after she drops and also to eat any fry she gives birth to (so there's more chance their fry will survive).

From what you've said it sounds like she is ready to drop, so you could put the platy in the breeding trap until she gives birth if you want to keep the fry or leave her out and let nature take its course.
