ok I found this morning what appeared to be a bubblenest in the tank where i keep my female beta..??

Is it normal?

It's possible. It's also possible that your female is actually a male, could be a plakat - people often get plakats confused for females of other types.

Yes they do. My female CT Rose used to make her own bubblenest, drop her eggs and then put them in it

It could also mean you have a male plakat unless you see the ovipositor

I've also heard bubble nests are a sign of happiness, or that the betta is content. Any truth to this?

Yea some females do it. One way you can tell if its a female or a male is to look for the ovipositer which looks like a little white speck on their bellies right behind the ventral fins.

Edit: Go to this site and look at the white speck on the belly. If your betta has that, its a female. If not, its probably a male plakat
