I have a couple juvie gups.. I'm intending on giving them to my LFS eventually, but I'm wondering when exactly they reach sexual maturity. I have one female and three males left from the last spawn. The female is only about 3 months old, but she already appears to have a gravid spot. It wouldn't surprise me if she's pregnant with 3 other boys swimming around, but I'd really like to know if she will give birth to proper fry. If so, I've got to bring her to the LFS soon.. I don't have the capacity for more.

Generally at around 3 months they are considered to be sexually mature. If your males have a gonopodium then expect them to use it!

I have a female that was born in August last year and to date I still haven't seen her have any fry and the males don't really give her much attention but I think she's a one off. Maybe they don't like her :-(

Its probably best to keep the sexes separated until the female is a fair size or she could be very stressed giving birth.

I usually send my spare fry to the lfs when they reach 1 inches in length.

10- 25 weeks is when there most mature, but I have 2 weeks olds with gravid spots, so I never realy go on that when there young. I had a female birth at 4 months old, I beleave thats to young as her fry where all deformed, and she died an hour after birth.

Females are at their prime from 4 to 8 months old,The female at 4 months was not too young.A well nourished one can breed the moment it is sexually mature and the first litter, you can expect to find dead fry as it is normal

there is no too young or guppies

well thats good to know, I been worryed about the same thing happening with the fry I now raising, I just ashumed she was to young when she die. Her 2 sisters never got pregnant.

all the fry but 2, died, the 2 females left had very deformed sines. But to be honest this event was my fist attemt at fraising and selective breeding guppies, and was a year ago. :*)

I guess I was unlucky.

mine are 3 months old and are not yet mature, id say 4 months and the males at 2 or 3 months
POssible reasons why they are not mature yet

-they are not well nourished(you never give any good food) or you feed them too little
-the water conditions in your house are not too good(high nitrate level)
-the guppies are a slow growing strain
-the guppies are overcrowded
