It is probably not just the females, the males could get it too. Do you have a picture of the white stuff? And could you descibe it more thourghly? It sounds like they got a fungal infection which could spread to the rest of the fish. You should probably try to find out what they had and treat the whole tank. After you have treated the tank, you could try getting some more fish. If you have a hospital tank you should try to quarentine new fish in the same solution you should treat the main tank with for about ten days.

hi
sounds like fungus on your guppies but yeah i cant keep guppies alive in my tanks at all no problems with any others just guppies

Both my females were doing great. Then when my one had babies, she developed white on her fins and within a week she died. The other female and the male are fine... as well as the babies. Maybe just the stress of being a girl!

How many gallons is the tank and how long has it been set up? How did you go about acclimatising the new guppys to the tank and for how long? I take it that the "white stuff" appeared on the females while they were still alive- did it look fluffy/cottony looking or somthing else like a slimey coating etc? My initial guess is that they died of columnaris, which is quite a common aquarium desease, but will need more info to go on first before i can be sure  .

No i cant say i have they keep breeding . My tank has been set up since xmas. I guess they arnt as hardy as they used to be because of inbreeding.

Sorry to hear that you're having troubles...I posted a thread recently on much the same subject :( My gupps don't seem to have any symptoms (apart from lying on the floor of the tank, generally being dead) and I think I've done all the right things with aclimitisation etc...Stress is my killer I think, but yours defo sounds like fungus :( Are all your fish from the same LFS? Perhaps switching suppliers might help...

*shrug*

Let me know how you get on...

Guppies are overall strange fish, They can be very easy to breed or moderately difficult.
It is all based on conditions, water params, settings, other fish, can be a tricky business.

Well .. humm the white stuff looked more like ulsers.. so im guessing stress did it to them.. their are some baby guppuies in the tank now.. atleast i think thats what they are because they are skinnier and longer then the swordtail babies... oddd..

btw i have a 37 gal eclipse tank.. i see not more signes of the white stuff one of the male guppies is laying at the bottem on the tank and lays there untill i feed them.. i havent been wanting to feed them too much maybe once every other day

I wish their was a better fish store here the best one that we have is Petsmart and critter co because its new.. all the others either dont have the firhs i like or the fish look very ill (clamped fins tatterered fins atleast 10 other dead fish)

I have ordered fish from PEtsolution and most of them lived i orded 6 glofish and 3 neon moons.. .. 3 glofish died (ick) and 1 Neon died.. the rest are happy in the tank

We have been having some issues with out water levels the ammonis is normal now it was really high.. it reached a high peak and went down to hardly any reading.. we did a 50% water change yesterday because our nirate and nitrite were pretty high.. (i ran out of test strips and payday is on the 15th) so they still have some red gills.. but when ifeed them they all act like they are starving! HA.. silly fishes they like to play in the bubbles.

My fish tank now
