I know females will flare, as they can be just aggressive as the males when they're in a harem. But for a female to flare at a male instead of just swimming for her safety? I'm not too sure about that...

my pretty thing. she flares at him from her tank while he flares 4 her.. he's such a show off.. but wen he flares hes gorgeous... those yellow stripes on him wen he flares use 2 be frightenin.. but now i think they are ggorgeous now lol

They can. Some females, particularly audacious ones, will flare at a male.

at first the night i put her in her tank she flared at him.. now she doesnt do it anymore.. she seems scared of him like females are lol

My female was flaring at my male during breeding... Thiink she was kicking his butt into action though cos was was nudging him too
