hey all, some of ya might of saw my thread about my male fighter now he is in the tank on his own :D

and took some people's advice to add 3 more females to our previously 2 females

BUT EMERGENCY!!

We just did a 50% water change due to high ammonia and noticed that a harlequinn is now dead *maybe due to high ammonia*.. and a neon tetra has a half of his back fin taken off!!

Would this be the females?

Also the females are stil chasing each other :S

Do i have to let them all settle in for the newly welcomed.

P.s our females are with the following

Neon Tetra's
Harlequinns
Bleeding Hearts
Silvertip's *look like big ish terta's but orange*
Peppered Cory's

None of them are nipping each other apart form the silvertips are chasing each other... its just the females now chasing the other's :S or chasing each other

how bigs the tank, how many fish total, and is it heavly planted ,, silk plastic whatever to break up the line of sight so the escape can hide?
some femal bettas are just as bad as the boys and will never get on well with other fish,, and they female could be trying to sort out thier pecking order. its best to keep females in groups of 4 or more so that the aggresion gets evenly spread around. if you jest added new female they will definatly be doing this and its best to take all the fish out and cup then individualy. move all the decoration in the tank around so it looks completly different and float the fish back in and put the smallest and lest aggressive in first. that way it will be new terrtorie for every body and less,, who the f*** is in my house situation.

if you have five females? and two of every other mentioned fish that makes 15, i think,, and you would need at LEAST a 15 gal us for that if you go for 1 gal per fish rule, probally bigger if some of the fish are larger than a inch then you need to go by the 1 inch of fish per gal rule, so say each female bettas is 1 inch = 5 + 1 1/2 per each other fish, not sure how big others actually get,, i only keep bettas but that would be ...........5 + 15 = 20 inches of fish? so you would need at least a 20 gallon.

if your tank is over stocked that could account for the high ammonia levels, just so many fish poopin and peein in a small tank???

Should have a 20+ gallon tank for this sort of stocking.

It's a much better idea to just keep a female bettas to their own tank.
