I purchsed some new bn plecs yesterday and after i had gotten them home and into the tank i realised the female had damaged her fin on her right hand side somehow it appears to be broken, will this heal and is their anything i can do for her, im not taking her back because i know what the fate for her will be, but it appears to be a substantial wound to the fin and i say broken this is because i know plecos upper side fins are quite sturdy and do have a rigid joining any advice would be great thanks.

Well there nothing you can do, just hope it mends on its own.
Did the lfs damage the fin with the net.

I would say he did catch her when he was netting her up but i didnt see the full extent of the damage until she was home and i noticed it was tooked up into her body instead of been flat like a sail it was point up over not a nice site, she seems very skittish now and when i turn the light on she darts about the tank like crazy for about 15 seconds, hopefully it will heal up ok and she will be fine.

thanks for the reply :good:

Fin clamping can be stress.
Have you checked your water stats.

Yeah its not stress its broken it isnt clamped in that term its broken up over on itself imagine a plec layed flat the side fin is aiming up over as appose to out over and flat with its body

Ok that's fine then.
Good luck.

Just keep the water clean and you should be fine. This happended to one of my baby bns and its fin grew back fine in a few weeks/months.
