Hello again everyone! I haven't been here in a long time but am glad to have the daily digest delivered to my e-mail!

One thing I cannot remember is: Is it possible to have a community of female bettas living in a 10 gallon tank? If so, what is the rule of thumb as to numbers?

A local store now carries Bettas. I saw them one day but resisted an impulse buy because I didn't want disaster to strike.

There is/was one beauty there, a white girl with seemingly red eyes. I really think I should have at least bought her but I didn't. Who knows if she'll still be there when I go back... but I thought I'd ask my question here first in case I could swing buying a few more to house with her (depending on her availability).

Thank you all!

edited to say: I also have a 55 gallon tank and wonder the same - if I can mix the females, and if so, how many could live together in 55 gallons.

females can do well in communities, i have 10 in with tetras, barbs (cherry), endlers and shrimp.

its recommended to have a minimum of 5 females

It is always recommended to have a minimum of 5 females in together to lessen the bickering. I have 22 living very peacefully together :good:

Thank you guys! I put 5 together last night. It was a long night watching them, but so fun! This evening I can find only 4 but one may be hiding. Two of the girls are very similar in color so I'm not sure who is who :)

The pretty "blue" one in my picture is very odd, as it is a white fish to the naked eye, but so blue in the pictures. I guess the flash from the camera is bringing out color I couldnt see before :)

My girls came from Wal Mart - FINALLY there is a place local to me that carries fish! Of course when I bought so many (6 total, a new male in his own tank) it raised some concern from the girl who was ringing me up.

..

All 5 from last night are accounted for, and tonite I introduced 4 more girls to the tank. All fish came from the same store - same supplier so there are few worries about adding these *new* to the ones from last night. If I had had the nerve last night I would have bought them all at once, but I decided to do some first, then add on.

Here's to another night of watching the tank!

BTW - I'm stocking my 55 gallon and will just leave my 10 gallon for a male.

Ow wow,- that's excellent! Congrats on all your new additions. Need lots of photos of all of them now! :good: :D
