I have a 20 gal Betta sorority, as well as a 30 gal community. I am sort of tired having both tanks, especially because there isn't much in my 30 gal; just 3 Honey Gourami, a Zebra danio, 5 Corys and a BNP. (I plan on rehoming the Gourami's and the Danio) (I couldn't catch said Danio last time I tried redoing stock and thus I kept him, hopefully I can catch him this time around.)

I was hoping to get the opinions of people if I combined tanks.
The stock would be:
5 Female Bettas
5 Corys
1 BNP

And I would hope to add a few other fish, perhaps a schooling fish of some sort. (Suggestions welcome :)

So are you putting those fish into the 20 or 30?
IME Female bettas are as placid as anything but I have been told numerous times that I was "very lucky"
I can't see why it wouldn't work. Bettas inhabit the upper middle region of the tank where as cories and Plecos inhabit the bottom so they would rarely come into contact anyway.

You need to get more females, to spread out the agression, given the tank is either 20 or 30 it should be asy to up the number.

I'd respectfully disagree. If she has had this setup for a long time without any problems then why change it? Adding more could possibly make it worse if a particularly aggressive one was introduced.
Saying that, I think a tank with 12+ female bettas would look pretty impressive.

that is true, that being said we dont know if the OP has been having problems with aggresion either...

I thought once you had a soriority established you avoided adding any more females

It'll be the 30 gal tank.

I had an aggressive female when I started out. Sadly she died. She was one of the smaller females in the tank and I guess the energy and stress of bullying down the bigger females eventually caught up with her and then she got ganged up on.

Anyways, the remaining five females are all very peaceful and have a well established hierarchy.
I'm not sure I want to add more females, as there is that chance of adding an aggressive one who could throw the whole thing out of whack.
I'd rather add (as I stated before) I was hoping to add a schooling fish. Or perhaps some platys. (Though an excess of female betta's would be pretty neat, if I could get enough color variation.) But I was hoping for a multi-species tank. aka more than just the Betta's the Corys and the BNP.

If you are moving them to the 30 gallon then it should be fine to add in another schooling species.  Be aware that you might have a power struggle with the female bettas anyway since you are moving them to a new territory.  It would be a good time to add more females if you so chose since they would all be added to the new tank at the same time.  I can't really advise on a schooling fish since I don't keep them with my bettas.  I do believe you need to add at least one more cory to bring their number to 6 which is the minimum for a good stocking of them. Stay with the same species.   Can't wait to see how it turns out for ya.  :)

Yeah. I think I'll re post this to the Betta forum and get some opinions on schooling fish that have been kept with Female Betta's :)

I'm thinking I'll keep my eyes out and maybe add another female or two (And yes another Cory :))
