I would like a group of female bettas for my new 80l tank. How many would be best to keep?

My only worry is that i used to have 4 female bettas in one tank and they became very aggresive towards each other when they got older (they were all sisters). They also grew to be quite big girls about 3 inches long, i dont know if this had anything to do with it. In the end i had to end up rehoming 3 of them. But i do love them and would like to keep them again. So any advice would be great

Thank you

your tank is about 21 gal so you could easily get 6 in there with a few cory :good:

Thanks. Do they have to be all sisters all would it be ok to try and get 6 or 7 small bettas that are all about the same size. I think it would be hard from me to find 6 sister bettas all at once, and i would like a varity of colours.

i *think* as long as you get ethm all at the same time it should be fine, mine get on great but they are sisters

The way you move fish around they should be called the sisterhood of the traveling tank!

Yeah mine are all sisters so I dunno how having different ones would work. Although my silver girl did come in about a week after the others and she is doing just fine. She was still one of their sisters but I got her after the rest.

For that size of tank - six would be a great number - and purchased all at the same time is probably a bit safer. Also, to help with any aggression issues - provide lots of "cover" and hiding places so they're not always in each other's face. Good luck!!

Hi, I've got a betta sorority tank. Started out with one female, added two more. Then I added one more the next week, one the next and one the next. Now, I've got two more girls in the quarantine tank waiting to go in. None are related. All get along great. I have two, the largest two, who argue every now and then to be the big hoochie momma in the tank. But, other than that, they all co-exist beautifully. Oh, they have lots of great hiding places, too. It's really a matter of picking out the right personalities, they don't have to be related for a sorority tank to work out well. :good:

I agree that you should be fine.

I recently added my girls to the sorority tank. I added the smallest first and believe it or not, the 2 smallest have the least fin nips. Actually, I don't think they have any...odd. Mine are not siblings and did fight for the first couple days. I added much more plants which has helped drastically! Now their fins are growing back and they seem to get along much better. Of course, when I add a few peas in there, they become more aggressive then ever, snatching the peas from each others mouth.
