Okay, curiousity struck me,i've heard that male bettas in a community tank, can (depending on the betta's personality) go on a rampage and hurt all the other fishes in the tank. I was wondering, are females capable of the same rampage? Also males i hear would attack fishes that seemingly look like them, like livebearers and such,do females attack them too? or is it just the males? And lastly, are bettas,in general, aggresive enough to attack fishes that are significantly bigger than them?

In my personal experiences, females aren't prune to 'hissy' fits, like the males. However, pee off a sorority group and the fore of 5 females will out weight 1 male.

Unfortunately, it's the horror stories people remember. Males can be aggressive but they are not all that bad, yes fish have an off day, we do too. If a betta is prone to attacking, then we just don't put it in a community tank, researching into bettas and other tropical fish will allow you to see and work out what breeds are better with bettas.

Bettas will predominantly take the top area and middle area of a tank, if you plant your tank well, you can add in other breeds of fish for the middle section i.e. rasboras, tetras or another small fish but read up on their temperaments. You can have a bottom dweller like corys, loaches, other types of cat fish and shrimp.

The main key here is research x
