Hey Everyone,

Ive bought a female betta today as an addition to my 26 gallon tank which holds 1 molly, 2 glofish tetra, 2 black skirt tetras (1 long and 1 short finned), 3 bleeding heart tetras, and 1 white blushing tetra. I also got a rubber lip bottom feeder which is doing splendidly who i also bought today. However, i put the betta in the tank and she is hiding underneath the filter, i believe my creamsicle molly scared her... The molly did chase her for a moment which has me concerned. Im sitting here keeping an eye on them two.. I have a cave for the betta to hide in if need be but she wont budge from being behind the fitler.. Will she ease into the community after some time? She hasnt chased any of my fish and seems sweet.. Hope this isnt a problem. Any tips?

I do have a betta bowl just in case i have to take her out but i hate keeping bettas in bowls.. They have nowhere to swim! How would i go about setting this bowl up? I used it for my betta i used to have from a year ago.

Thanks in advance.

The best thing for you to do is to return the betta. They are really not good additions to communities. Yours has some stocking issues anyway which need to be addressed before adding in a different species.

In your case, the betta is not a good idea because she's already stressed. If the molly has already chased the betta, you can be sure it will probably continue to happen for a few weeks. Next you've got three different species of tetras (glofish tetras are usually genetically modified black skirt tetras; this practice is widely frowned upon in the experienced community because of the health problems which come with the modifications to the fish's DNA), and most of these tetras are usually very nippy. Then you've got them in very low numbers which is going to make everyone less relaxed, meaning they'll nip more frequently. Finally, you've got a long finned skirt tetra, which will be a target for the betta. Even the females will chase and nip other fish with long fins.

As I've said, best to return the betta now.

Okay thank you for you response. I will return the betta.
