I'm not sure why but my female apisto cacautoide, died

My stats are amo: 0, nitrite: 0, nitrate: 20 (planted tnank) pH: 8.

My male is thriving, infact he seems like he is at the top of his game and is beautiful, I had no other issues with the rest of the community. I had 2 females that came with this male, the 1st female never grew any bigger than she was, within the first 4 weeks of getting her (about 1.5cm) and she always hid, rarely ate and one day, I just found her dead. The second female grew rapidly but she hung around the back and I rarely saw her eating. I thought she was getting what she needed, as she was growing and then last week, she disappeared. I found her in one of the coconut huts dead

I'm confused

Beth I`m so sorry

I fully understand how you`re feeling as I`ve had the same with my Apistos and I have absolutely no idea why it happens either

I wish I could offer some advice or at the very least a possible reason as to why your Apisto died but I can`t, I`m just really sorry

Sorry for your loss, I cant help I dont keep them. The only thing I would guess at it the male wanted to breed and she wasnt ready and got too stressed!

Sorry Beth, I know you are taking such careful care. I just think sometimes, there are weak strains out there. I know your Ph came up before but my apisto caratuoides are in a Ph of 8.2. My male has grown very large. My female seemed to stay at the same tiny size for months but lately has a bit more girth. Nevertheless the male is 5-8 times larger than she is. He does not overly harass her and she seems to hold her own in the tank despite being the tiniest fish in there. She did disappear once for 3 days and I thought I lost her but then she showed up again. Don't give up. Try to get a female or two somewhere else now to get some different genes in there.

Have also lost a female Apisto too, again for reason unknown. Sorry to hear of your loss Beth.

I really would like for my male to spawn with a female. Maybe I'll have to look at a different breeder, I'm looking to rehoming my bettas, might take the strain off a female apisto and give a new one a better chance?

Thank you x
