Female Angelfish Laying By Herself...

My female angelfish, whenever she is ready to spawn, she beats up the male until his fins are all torn and floating on his side!! I had him removed (he's fine now), after I removed him she would lay the eggs and protect it until they turn white, than she eats them...is this normal? This behaviour started after 2 failed spawns (both parents ate the eggs right away)

Most times the Angels will eat the eggs or the fry. Sometimes you need to just seperate them from the eggs to let the babies have a chance at life. Most fish will eat their young sadly enough!

Try taking out whatever they have spawned on and putting it in a breeding tank or remove the angels to another tank.

I have heard of this happening in the past actually once or twice but it does happen. Are you 100% the other angel is male as they are hard to sex until you see them breeding, I believe you can usually tell boys from girls from the head shape but its not 100% definite. If it is 2 girls that could be the problem..

you know, my female bullys my male summat chronic...and I know they are def male/female because I've seen them spawn before.

I just put it down to PMT! lol
