How much do you feed your fish and how often?
The reason i am asking this is because so far i have had three answers all conflicting each other. (this may be rather long so bare with me)
It came around because i got Ich in my tank that came about shortly after introducing a clown loach that looks like it had a internal bacteria problem. We got in touch with the shop and they said bring some water for testing.
Now i had done that tetra stick test every other day and the results for Nitrite were always at 0 then after adding a dose of Metafix and Primafix for the internal bacteria and a nipped fin i had noticed the nitrite had on the tetra strip went to 1.
When they tested the water the nitrite was extremely high leading me to believe the tetra testing strips are crap but however the guy asked me how much i feed the fish and how often.
I took a pinch of food and showed him, He then said it was too much and took about 90% of the food away and said that was how much i was overfeeding and was why the nitrite was too high, even though ammonia was at 0 and the fish quickly eat all the food.
After looking into it the three ways to feed i found are as follows.
- 2 flakes per fish per day,
- Enough for all the fish to completely consume within 2 min,
- about 5 flakes (say roughly 1cm round) for the follow fish
5 guppies
5 platties
3 clown loach (soon to be moved)
2 angel
1 red clawed crab
1 betta
SO my question is as above, How much do you feed and how often?
Mine was, 1 pinch a day (works out about 1 flake per fish), an algae tablet every other day and frozen bloodworm or daphnia every week or so instead of the flakes.
there is very rarely any left over food in the tank.
