Feeding Time

Quick question! How do you make sure all your fish get fed? I add a small amount of flake, a small amount if crushed sinking food and a quater of a algea tablet a day once a day to a tank with:

6 Cardinal Tetra
6 Copper Harlequin
8 Pygmy Corys
1 L191 Plec (1.5")

I do that for 4 days, 1 day i add frozen food instead of flake/pellet and the other i mix flake and pellet with some fresh cucumber. On sundays i dont feed at all.

I just noticed however that my plec ventured out from its house in daylight and tried to grab an algea wafer the corys were playing with. Iv never noticed this before and its got me wondering if its getting enough food.

Thoughts and ideas please ^^

as alot of plecos are nocturnal (have the same with my L052) i tend to try putting the food as close to her hidy hole as possible, i also have cories and a very greedy siamese algae eater in the tank mine is partial to cucumber and carrot too, might be worth a try

I actually struggle to get the plec to take any cucumber and have not seen it eat at all yet. I put a wafer as near to its "house" as i could the other night. At 3am when i got up for work i had to take it out again Same story with the cucumber. It hasnt lost any weight yet and it still has a plump stomach which i see on the rare occasion i see it "sucking" the algea off the glass! It does however eat ALOT of wood. Infact thats where its made its home, on the underneath of one of my bogwood pieces!

the food should be fine in the tank over night, i leave my veg in all day if its uneaten which is very rare

i feed my fish of an evening when i get home from work and then before i go to bed and the tank lights are off had a few algae wafers for the corys and plecos , you could try that

i think royals require a mostly meat diet? someone correct me if i am wrong, i take it you mean frozen bloodworm?

Feeding: These fish need to be fed primarily on vegetables, algae, and bogwood. Among the vegetables readily accepted are carrot, courgette (zucchini), cucumber, lettuce leaves (blanched), peas (cooked), and spinach. Standard plec algae wafers and pellets will be taken as well. Bogwood is a critical component of the diet of these fish. These fish eat the wood and actually digest it (most other plecs simply need the wood as a source of dietary fibre).

Yeah its a royal, i am aware of its diet and am trying my best to provide for it, i just want to make sure he gets enough!

So cucumber in overnight do we think? Or carrot? Blanched or not?

i use blanched carrot but cucumber goes straight in, even my cories eat it

if he's taken residence in a bogwood house that's what he'll be eating at night.
