Feeding Shrimp In A Planted Aquarium

I am starting a shrimp-only aquarium with live plants. There will be 5-7 shrimp. How often should I feed them(algae wafers)? Will they live off the plants? If so, will it hurt the plants?

Shrimp will live off of the micro film on leaves, they won't eat the plants unless the are rotting. I give my shrimps in my shrimp tank a few flakes a week and thats it.
