went to lfs today for the weekly live food treat and i got some river shrimp for the sevs. 1st time i tried it i just put them straight in and they all died. not so live food lol. so i asked advice and they said float the bag for 10 mins like you would with fish to match temp i did this and they were all swimming around lively as hell. was so funny watching my sevs trying to catch them only for the shrimp to give a quick burst of speed at the last second. this really stimulated the sevs into some "hunting" behaviour they had a good feed and had to work for it which they seemed to enjoy.

I also went to swallows today and got some river shrimp

My sevs wont touch them really and if they are interested my Oscar scar eats them all first

lol oscars are so greedy. even my firemouth went mad for them. so funny watching a little 2 to 2 1/2 inch fish swimming around with this big shrimp sticking out of its mouth

Haha I cant get ghost shrimp for my invert tanks anywhere and yous get them to feed to your fish

 dont know if they are ghost shrimp or not. they are probably about 3/4 of an inch white/see through and you a shed load of em for a quid

have you tried asking in your lfs? i didnt even know they sold shrimp as food til i asked if they had any bigger live food as my sevs were too big to be intgerested in daphnia. failing that good old earthworms from the garden mine go mad for them

None Ive found sell anything more than the daphnia and bloodworm in the bags which I dont buy as they look half dead and dont want to risk giving them those.

yeh they got a secret river shrimp tank under the counter, its not always available though

im lucky ive got 2 good lfs. 1 is bigger and has great range of fish its where i got vinny my blue acara geos and kribs rainbow wise they usualy have bosemans lacustris and trifasciata several different types of plecs ( even a very large royal plec) always got red tiger oscars theyve got a wicked siamese tiger dat but i cant have him (booooo) however their live food is poor. then there is a smaller 1 run by a married copule where the fish altho very healthy and of good quality variety is limited to the usual tetras platties corys etc. ( i guess being a small shop they have to stock what they will sell most of) but their live food is top notch

seapets is the best in colchester for fish. i wouldnt buy from swallows. granted seapets used to have a bad rep but since running the fish house was taken over by a member from these forums thats all changed . i buy all my fish from either seapets or wildwoods ( mail order from tropicalfishfinder) most of my dry food from seapets. my live food from dolphin aquatics in colchester and i get some of my stuff from pets at home in colchester. even tho their fish section is pretty poor its the only place round here that sells hikari cichlid pellets . seapets also has a good range of frozen foods.

this is the sort of quality stock you get from seapets these days
