Does anyone else experience anything like this with their betta?

I've tried practically every kind of food you can think of to feed mine and the only things he'll touch are live or frozen foods. Last month I decided to try him with some Tetra slow sinking pellets just to see what happened. He eventually decided to eat one of them. I left it for about 30 seconds and dropped another one in. Just as the other one hit the water he spat the previous pellet out.

Anyway, yesterday I decided to try some floating pellets that my dad had bought for his tank. They are tiny so I thought I'd try them. Dropped one in, he came to the top and took it straight away. I left him for a few seconds to see if he'd spit it out but he didn't. I dropped in another. Same thing happened, he took it straight away. So in goes another. This time though he takes his time with it so I leave it longer before adding another.
However on dropping the final one in he takes it in his mouth but it was sort of half in - half out. And he was motionless. Then all of a sudden he opens his mouth and all the pellets come flying out.

Not sure why he does it or what happened to make him spit all the pellets out like that but I've decided to give up and just feed frozen food now.

Ack, My Husband and I had that problem with Xerxes (which we have since resolved by feeding him flake food) - your Betta is probably just a really picky eater like ours is. If you want a couple of solutions I suggest reading through the "Help with Xerxes" thread :)

you may need to leave him without food for a few days then try feeding him something other than live or frozen foods

draven wasnt too fussed on his new food but after a couple of tries he is taking it no problem just takes time

Sound slike a very spoiled betta! Reminds me of a cat i used to have that would only eat canned food (and only certain kinds at that) LOL! We had to stop feeding him for a day to get him to eat a few bites of regular food to break him of it (although I think we ended up spoiling him back to canned foods again eventually) LOL.

I argree to go about 2 days without feeding him and see if he will take them after that. If not, I think it wouldn't hurt to try to flakes. I have one who only eats flakes, one who only eats pellets, another who will eat ANYTHING, and LOVES blood worms, and another who only eats oellets and just about 3 a day at that.

Seems as though they are all different, lol. You may have to try a few things but it really sounds like he may just be spoiled rotten! You may also want to try smaller pellets. Maybe they are a tad bit large for them.

Think I may have had some success last night!

Decided to try the Tetra crisp things again. Turned the filter off on the tank so the water was perfectly still, crumbled a few flakes up really small and dropped them in. He took his time but eventually started to eat them. Only managed to give him a couple before he got a bit bored of them but at least it's a start. :good:

Just keep on with them, he will soon realise they are his main source of food and the live stuff is just once in a while! :D

Yes keep feeding him the tetra crisp and maybe try giving him some pellets it is always good to have a varied diet :good:
