Hi all, I just got a Marble Angelfish the size of a nickle less than two weeks ago. It was eating fine the first week or so but the past three days I noticed that everytime it would eat a flake, it would puke it back out. It would try hard to eat it but it's not going in.

Anybody have insight on this? I don't want to loose the fish. The tank is a small 10 gallons since I'll let it grow a little before moving it into a bigger tank. pH of 7.0 and the water temp is around 83oF.

Hello and welcome to the forum :good:

Just a few questions.... What are your water stats (ammonia, nitrite etc.)? Have you tried feeding the angelfish with any other foods (eg. frozen bloodworm) to see if it is able to swallow or may just be being picky about its food? I have 2 angels in my tank and have seen them doing this with flake food but swallow bloodworm straight down. Are there any other fish in the same tank and if so are they all feeding ok?

i see many fish do this, they seem to take in the food chew it up a bit then spit it back out and eat it again, maybe it makes it easier to eat ???? but i dont think its a problem :D

The water itself is fine. I've checked and the parameters all check.

It's just a small angelfish by itself in the tank. It's eaten the flakes before with ease. Just recently it seems to have the issue of not being able to digest. Just bites, spits it back out, tries to eat it again and still spits it back out.

The angelfish I have were quite small when I got them and they acted in the same way with flake but as I said not with bloodworm. I was a bit worried about it at first but they seem to be growing fine and I have two of them, not sure if this makes a difference. Have you tried any other food? If this problem persists and you are afraid that the angelfish is not gaining weight it may be an idea to post on the New World Cichlid section as there should be people more experienced with angelfish in that forum.

Well, unfortunately, it's too late now. I found the Angel dead at the bottom of the tank this morning. Thanks for trying to help anyways
