Right... so my first attempt to feed wafers to my amano shrimp didn't go well and my betta engorged himself yesterday and sat around being miserable.  He is back to looking like his normal self today and is swimming as usual... but I have decided he is fasting today to be safe.

Question 1)  How long would you fast your betta after this type of occurrence?

Also... I did feed my shrimp smartly... or so I thought, using the little snail house I made and placed the wafer inside... problem was the shrimp took the wafer and ran with it and betta came along and gobbled it up.  D'oh!

Questions 2)  How do I feed the shrimp next time?  (I want to give the wafers from time to time on top of the algae they were eating as they have become too effective... I've moved half of them into another tank so they won't starve).

I would fast the betta for 4 or 5 days. Bettas are pigs.

You have to deal with a fat better honestly :/ or you can get the tiny little shrimp pellets that the bettas probably will have a hard time finding. Also you can feed TUMs if they arent the mint flavor. Mine love the berry smoothie flavor. They turn to powder, and I have noticed my bettas dont realy like them, so the shrimps can eat all they want

Ah shrimp pellets!  I forgot entirely that those exist.  Those would likely work out entirely better, I could drop them into the snail house and if the shrimp carry them away my betta would probably not notice, especially with the new substrate I will be adding in a few days.

I don't think it would take him long to realise the shrimp pellets are food too though

it's a difficult one as bettas are such pigs lol! I tried nori sheets and my betta still gobbled that up lol! cucumber/courgette is the only thing he is not too fussed with.

I guess I might have to make a corner I can slide in and trap him sometimes.
