Feeding In General

Now that I've just been educated in lighting

I'd like to see what everyone has to say about feeding. I've been feeding twice a day a good quality flake food, and lately the fish are acting like they haven't eaten in days. Are they just being conditioned to react to me? Or are they not getting enough food? I've seen on various posts feeding schedules from 2-3 times per day, to 2-3 times per week. I'm so confused!!

With feeding it's always better too little than to much. Fish can survive 2-3 weeks with no food and very little ill effects. As your fish get settled they will get used to the fact that you mean food and line up to be fed as you pass by. Also some fish will just recognise there owner and come out to say hi.

Feeding twice a day is plenty. Unless you start seeing any ill effects e.g. sunken bellies then the fish have plenty of food. I think standard is once a day with maybe a treat or 2 during the week.

The only time i think people will generally feed more than once a day is if they have a specific reason like trying to persuade breeding with high protien diet or fish that require a slightly higher volumn of food like Oscars.

Also you have to concider that the more food you put in the tank the lower the water quality and the higher your maintenance.

I normally feed once a day & roughly the same time of day too, the fish all come up to the top of the water when i'm near the tank at that part of the day, as to say "food time" lol.

I only feed once a day, the fish seem happy, active and healthy. I don't like to feed too much as i don't want to risk the water quality.
