Hi gals n guys

I have been reading up on dietary requirements for my platys, gouramis, guppys....etc etc, and have seen several articles on feeding them veg like peas, sprouts cucumber etc. Has anybody done this ? If so how much, how often ??

I dont want to give them a salad but any info would be nice

THanks

anything thats green can go in, just dont over do it i give mine 1-2 portions of veg a week

I've even tried cook brocolii crowns once and they love it. Just don't put in an entire crown as it will make the water all icky.

anything not eaten in 24hrs should be removed or it may mank up your water

for peas you should blanch them (drop them in a little boiling water just for a minute or so) then remove them from their shells and just feed the soft inside bit to them

Blanched broccoli, spinach, sprouts, potato, peas (de-shelled and squashed). Raw zucchini, cucumber, apple, rock melon. And there's lots more!

Blanching - put the veg in a pot, cover with water, bring to the boil, tip the water out, let the veg cool.

I used to use metal BBQ skewers to weigh the veg down, which I thought were stainless steel, but they're rusting, so I'm guessing they're not!

I now use wooden BBQ skewers and poke them diagonally into the gravel, works as well as the metal ones bit like a vegie kebab!

Your fish may not recognise the veg as food at first, perservere though they will eventually and they'll love it. I give my fish veg 3 -4 times per week. They just adore broccoli and devour it very quickly!

Warning: Cucumber, zucchini, apple and rock melon will make your tank cloudy if left in for any longer than 12 hours. The rest of the veg can pretty much be left until it's gone, proving that's no longer that 24 - 36 hours after that amount of time it'll be starting to go a bit off.

Hope this helps and good luck. :)

Wow - they like their greens more than me.

Brilliant - thanks for all the answers, will start them off on a bit of brocolli then :)

THANKS
