Feeding Crickets

Hi, I heard you can feed oscars live insects.
Firstly is this ok?
If so I plan to grab some crickets from a LFS.
What I'm after is some tips on feeding.
Won't the crickets jump the second I pull open the lid?

Ive also read about this but feeding them to flowerhorns. I think people use a pair of tongs and just slightly open the lid enough to grab one with the tongs. I also read it shouldnt be fed live food everyday because they contain lots of protien

They are currently on a diet of hikari pellets and bloodworm. Just fancied giving them summin different

Yeah ive been reading up on differant foods. The main thing seems to be variety for healthy growth. I also read about fasting, it said for large cichlids over 7/8" should not be fed one day during the week, the reason said it helps their digestive system. Now im not 100% on this bit it seems like a good idea to me

dry putting them in the freezer for a bit the cold should stun them enough to slow them down
