hey people ive not posted in this section before as ime more into the nano section but anyways i was wondering if any of you could tell me if its ok to feed me clown fish (nemo type) the same bloodworms that i feed me tropical fish???

thanks alot craig

As a dietary staple, no, but as a treat once or twice a week, sure :)

its like pure protein lol, prime rib steak.

Oh and "nemo type" is false percula (occellaris) or true percula. I dont like it when people call them nemo.....

I feed mine bloodworm regularly. Frozen maybe once a week. Freeze dried, daily along with flake food. They really seem to enjoy the bloodworm.

I tried some lobster eggs this evening for my dragonet. He seemed to eat them. The clowns went nuts for them, but then again they are greedy little sods.

percula ok ill remember that 1 lol and thanks for the advise people......also had a bit of an idea it may sound silly but here goes

if i was to go out and buy 4 or 5 different frozen foods and defrost them all into a container and pour them back into the packaging they all come from to make cube shapes again. would i be able to do this to make a mixed frozen food to make feeding a little more simpler than having to get 4 or 5 diff packets out 2 times a day???

Sounds like a lot of buggering about for nothing to be honest. Just rotate the foods. Bloodworm one day, mysis shrimp another etc, etc. I feed mine predominently on flake food and give them a few frozen and freeze dried foods as treats. That way I know they are receiving a nice varied diet with all the nutrients they need.

LOL . I dont see why not. The shop I get mine from said your are ok to refreeze upto 24hrs after defrosting. You could mix them up and put them into ice cube trays :) Perfect.
I prefer to offer a variety every day, as if they dont like one type I dont see its fair that they have to go hungry that day!

You could mix them up and put them into ice cube trays

Genious! Oh wait, I allready do that :shifty:  For real though, this is a great method IMO especially when you have a tank with a decent number of fish in it that eats a lot of food. I buy frozen in the big 8oz sheets (more cost effective), add some cheap fish roe (fish eggs from asian market), sprinkle a little nori, defrost it all, pour into ice cube trays, re-freeze, and put all the new cubes in a sealed plastic baggy (stinks up your freezer if you dont). Then every night, reach into the bag, pull out cube, all set to go :)

my idea seems to be not so stupid afterall then lol and looks like some people have alreayd beaten me to it lol ill have a gd spend up at my lfs at the weekend then on lots of different foods and then have some fun defrosting it all down.....may take a few hours to do it all for starters but will be easier in the long run i guess.

could i mix some flakes into this aswell or shall i leave them seperate???

I leave the flake/pellet seperate... Personal preference only really.

Only problem is... if the foods are refrozen slowly (like in an average freezer) the ice crystals that form will be comparatively large and could possibly break the cell mebranes of the frozen food, causing the nutrients to leak out. This is why all reputable frozen food companies use flash-freezing techniques.

Huh, never thought of that, great point Lynden... Now you've got me paranoid

Personally I don't feed bloodworms just because they aren't very nutritious. Just me though....

A great way to pick off frozen food quantities is a hammer and a screw driver for the 8oz. flats. For the 4oz. cubes I use in a whole and throw away the extras. I don't like refreezing things personally. Kind of like when you take the ice cream out of the freezer and you forget to put it away and end up finding it on the table at 2AM in the morning while on the walk to your mid-night wee; The ice cream gets all sandy and nasty the next time you want to eat it. I don't think the fish would like that eather.
....well that was the round about way of saying it...

hmmm gd point made i guess.....ill see how i get one with things and if its nessesary ill juts have to feed the fish from individual frozen blocks.
