It is interesting to observe what part of the water column different species will eat from. My glowlight tetras and a. caudalis will only eat from the mid water column. They would rather starve than take food off the substrate. They rarely take food that hovers on the surface. My n. beckfordi charge the surface and mid water column for food. They will even go down to the substrate to munch on Repashy. My platys, Mollys and endlers will go anywhere for food. The a. thomasi, j. transcriptus, a. compressiceps and Cockatoo are substrate only eaters. The evolution of these different feeding behaviors I assume relates to differences in their natural habitat and what niche their predators occupy. Different strokes for different folks.
