Hi, hope someone can point me in the right direction. I have 10 neon tetras which happily swim around the middle of the tank but when it come to feeding, they stay in the middle and miss out on food at the top because the guppies and angles quickly polish off everything. I find myself having to use my finger to push the food down so it sinks before they have a chance of eating any.

I'm currently using flakes and frozen blood worm. To help a little, I start feeding on the right side of the tank so when most fish are eating over there I quickly add food to the left side and try and push it down so the tetras get a bit of a chance.

Is there anything else I can try that anyone can recommend.

Not alot more you can do, other than try a sinking micro pellet/granule. Try not to worry tho, this is perfectly normal in a community tank. Holding some in your fingers just below the surface then rubbing them together is the best way I have found to get them to sink.

Mix the flake in a cup with tank water, so it sinks when you pour it in.

I just knew there would be an easy answer. Thank you, I'll try the cup method later. I've tried pinching the flakes underwater but they seemed to clump together but I've only tried that once so I'll give that another go too.

Cut the top off a small plastic coke bottle (250ml) and hold it in the tank, drop flake through the opening and it will sink down through the bottle and reach the mid-levels untouched. I've done this before and found that the mid-level fish actually become accustomed to it and end up swimming up to 'greet' the bottle :)

What a great idea, I'll give that a go too. Thank you :)

Great Idea :good:

I normally hold the flake in my hand and sink my hand to release the flake

when they get hungry enough they will learn to get the food... our gourami were the same at first :)
