I finally got some cherry shrimp today at a bargain price of 50p (think the guy serving got it wrong). The cherry shrimp are small. I saw see through large shrimp in a tank labelled feeder shrimp 10p each - are these ghost shrimp? Or are they simply a shrimp called feeder shrimp? Are they any good to get for a tank?

Hi :)

This thread might be a slight help...

Thanks for that guys, it does seem that they are grass/glass/ghost shrimp and may give them ago with some of the cories in a tank.

They're just cheap river shrimp - I buy them for my cichlids and puffer, but i'm considering having a few in my betta tanks as well, because they're very amusing to watch and keep the tank floors spotless

I've never seen them in the shops but was looking for some for my bichir's as a treat.

has anybody kept ghost shrimp alive for any length of time without adding salt to their water?

I have them for my F8 puffers and they do live in brackish water. I have a couple of rogue glass shrimp that are happily living in the puffers tank having managed to evade the advancing beaks of the fish

Agreed, they are kept in brackish in my local shop. 10p is expensive though, i pay 5p for mine.

they aren't river shrimp, they don't live long in any water, they are the main shrimp people use as feeders and you buy them in the thousands, they need really cold pure marine water or they die in a matter of minutes. shrimps in the shop will be ghost/glass shrimp, they don't need salt and will happily live in your tank, i wish i could find some to feed my fish!

I keep mine in the fridge in the brackish water they keep them in at the shop, and they last a week in there, much to my surprise!

 Your puffs need to get on that ASAP! Honestly the state of pufferdom is at stake  Thanks for the heads up peeps, will stick to my 5 cherries for the moment (got them all for £2.50, think he went wrong at the till as that was meant to be each  )

Feeders are sometimes ghost shrimp, depends on the store and the supplier.

Without a photo it'd be hard to tell.
