Oh yeh were is best to get this fish from and do u get a living fish good quality if u order on line never dared do it befor might just ask my local if he can order in overwise thanks jonny (uk)

ordering online from what I read is good but the fish are usually a little more stressed than usual...I suggest something like a Golden Severum or Striped Headstander there 7-8" at fully grown with very nice colour

I wouldn't even consider buying a fish just yet, your tank has desease.

QTR, you really shouldn't make stocking suggestions without first finding out what the other fish in the tank are. for example, a severum is 100% not a good choice if the tank only holds neons and other small tetras; its also an inappropriate suggestion if this is an African Rift Lake tank. while the poster's other topic seems to indicate that he has a discus/angel tank, it does not appear that you read that thread before posting your suggestions. even now, i am uncertain that a severum would be a good choice for a discus tank, given the high likelihood of conspecific aggression if the severum turns out to be male.

I was merely throwing up fish that fit the criteria not saying buy those fish and just throwing it up as a suggestion due to the fact they asked for fish that are colourful but largish...

im not adding fish for a long time but seeing as i havent used a fourum befor and i have a few expert opions i thought id get some good ideas for future reference its not like im made of money you know but thanks for picking up on it any way i suppose others probably are daft enough to do some thing like that.

woooah there. Calm down a bit. That wasn't inapropriet. all that was suggused by what he said was that there was a tiny pleco. Honestly, it was a suggestion, and then if the person with the tank asks about stocking problems, someone can help.

Edit: also his profile has NO fish information and he;s made 5 posts. I'd have done the same mistake perhaps.

Another edit: for all we know neons and so forth could have been used to cycle and he might not want them. both sides make assumptions, but one side would be hypocriotical. Instead, we can be patient IMO, all hold hand, take a deep breath, and those who believe in prayer take a moment to pray

actually, we really are a lot better than most forums. :)

my point is that we really can't begin to make any suggestions about stocking without knowing what else lives in the tank. water parameters (such as pH and hardness) also dictate what's an appropriate suggestion. that's often the problem with giving advice over the internet--there's just not enough information immediately available.

since you aren't immediately interested in making a purchase, might i suggest just poking around at the various fish sites and seeing what you find interesting? our fish index and aquabid.com are two places where you will see a wide selection of interesting fish. if you think you might like to add a catfish, then planetcatfish.com is a great place to poke around. "scotcat" also has some fantastic profiles posted, but i can't recall what the suffix is for the address.

and in a direct address to Gankutsuou:

my point was that no explicit suggestion could possibly be appropriate at this point because there was not enough information. mistakes are also only learned from when they are pointed out; i know that QTR is commited to responsible husbandry and thus would benefit from a reminder that not all fish are appropriate to all set-ups. that is why i also provided two instances in which one of his suggestions would be a poor choice. i will admit that i should have explicitly stated my opinion that, although a mistake was made, i do not feel that it makes QTR any less of a valued contributor to the forum (which he is). my apologies for that oversite and the delay in response.

also, Gankutsuou, i do not appreciate the very condescending tone with which you have responded to me. i will admit that we do not always see eye-to-eye, but i have tried very hard to always treat you in an adult fashion and i would appreciate it if in the future you could return that courtesy.

You make sense pica_nuttalli like i said it was just for suggestions really due to the situation in my tank although i think im onto the problem i dont think it will be to long until its just me and tiny my rather large plec so i think the decision on what fish to get next will be a little more varied than i first though thanks every one for yor time Jonny

hmmmmm, it's my bad on this pica, I just thought you might have been over hard on Quo, and I seem to just see a little hardness in general.

But hey, that's not you being mean, it's your love for the fish! It's perfectly understandable :D

and now it's my bichir
