Feather Fin Catfish Has Big Issues!?

is it normal for it to behave in such a way?

about 1 week ago i purchased a 5'' feather fin catfish (Synodontis eupterus) and added it into the tank with 2 cichlids and a red finned shark.
he still seems rather shy and what not (as the feather fin i belive is nocturnal)
however, after looming around in the corner of the tank for a while he seems to just bolt it around the tank being rather wreckless in everyway.
is this normal? i just cant seem to understand why its behaving this way.
help and advise?

I used to have a huge 8 inch eupterus and he used to go absolutely mental if I was in the room and hid most of the day then came out at feeding one way I managed to calm him down was to add some floating plants which spread out a surface carpet which he used to love hanging upside down under.
