the standard 55 gallon, has become my favorite size and shape aquarium... I have tanks from 10, to 250 gallons, and find the 55 gallon easier to place and work on, and seems to provide a nice "slice of the lake" that the fish can easily work with... I personally like the higher glass of a 45 gallon tall, or 65 gallon, but they don't seem to set up as well for the fish... the 30 gallon longs, are about like mini 55 gallons dimensionally, so they are nice if you don't have the room... of coarse if you are breeding many like the shorter breeder sizes... I just find the 55's, which are typically just a little taller, than a lot of the "breeder" tanks, as one of the best all around tank sizes and shapes...

thoughts???

For those of us who don't live in the US, can you tell us the dimensions of the tanks, please?

I have just one fish tank, the other being a shrimp tank. I didn't like any of the size/shapes available here for the volume I wanted so I bought a custom made tank. I preferred a tank with a larger footprint for the volume and not as tall as those available 'off the shelf' as I'm not that tall and needed to be able to reach the bottom of the tank. The size I bought was 42 x 18 x 18 inches or 107 x 45 x 45 cm (The company worked in Imperial, hence the odd measurement for length)
How does that shape compare to the US sizes?

My favorite aquarium is the standard rectangular twenty gallon high . 24 inches by 12 1/2 wide by 16 deep . Easy to move by myself , perfect for almost all small fish and simple to maintain .

I wish there were standard sizes here; some manufacturers make the same dimensions with the same volume, but others make different volumes, or the same volumes as others with different dimensions.

My tank doesn't fit any US sizes :|

That’s England for you . They don’t follow the crowd . 🤣

I don't think the fish much care, if we measure their tanks in inches or centimeters, I tend to round up the measurements in even increments, so if I were doing that in cm, it would be closer, because of the shorter distance to round up...

I'm an old curmudgeon, I do everything as I was taught, I acknowledge & respect that there are other measurements, I just haven't memorized the conversions so my temps are measured in Fahrenheit & length in inches
