what is your favorite pike and why?

mine is a crenicichla jegui. i love reticulatas they are so different than their cousins. the get moderately big, have awsome personalities, and just look awsome. im not into the big flashy lugubris anymore. its a shame, i need more tanks!!!!!!!!!

i have a few favs

1) Orange Pike Cichlids, what can i say, there bright orange lol
2) Crenicichla sp. "Cobra", i like there pattern
3) Crenicichla regani, there just cute as hell lol
4) Crenicichla sp. "Tapajos Red" (i like there color pattern

hey, what can i say, i like them all, but i guess ill have to go with regani, just cuz they stay small and have just the cutest dam faces (no, im not a girl...)

i have a regani and a xingu I. i agree both are awsome pikes! the regani i have is a female and she beats on my juvie. lucius. the cobras are also great cause of the extreme change they go through. keep the opinions rolling!

I think my favorite pike is the jewel. Coz that is the only species of pike I ever owned xD! :shifty:

you talking about crenicichla saxitilis? i love them. spangled pikes rule!

any one else got a favorite?

Spangled are probably my favorite of the medium sizes pikes. Cobra pikes are my fave though, they are soooo nice.

everyone seems to like the big robust lugubris a lot. any one like the wallici or reticulata or lacustris?

i want more pikes!!!!!

You cant really blame them, they are very cool and impressive fish. I want a pike full stop! Ive just not got the space.

Marmorata are also beauties.

i didnt have much time , but nothing really came up. i called in some back up from my mentor though, so well see if i can get a pic up soon!

ok so there are no known pictures to my knowledge until my mentor gets back to me. but, i did find out there has been a ban on
fishing in the river system they are from and it isnt in the commercial fishing areas of s.a. i myself have only heard of these cool little fish. the closest i cam up with was on vinny kutty's site. he has c. cf. heckeli.

cool little creni! reminds me of a regani with the nice pinkish color of a breeding female belly crawler.

too bad there is no fishing in the trombetas system! i talked to jeff rapps last night (for his amazing geological and fish knowledge.), i called him to see if they will ever be available. he said he doubts it will be any time soon.

so all in all. i cant find a pic. sorry guys! im still trying though!

Thanks very much andyourblueblood, thats great. So its not the exact species, but it shoudent be far off.
Thanks for the research, much more than I found out about them. Heck, if Jeff Rapps cant get them in, then chances are no-one can!
Im glad in a way that you cant fish in the area that it lives in, it will mean that heckeli stays there for a while at least and it can flourish in peace.

my fave has got to be esox lucius ha lol best fish ever
