Fat Red Eyed Tetras

One of my red eyed tetras has a really big belly and it usually stays on corners... is it constapated? what can i do?

maybe constipated - maybe swim bladder disease - may have swallowed air, maybe pregnancy?

any other symptoms - what do you feed your fish?

i feed them nothing but flake food... pregnancy? possible, but i have only had them for about 2 weeks. dont they lay eggs? if it has the bladder sickness, what other sypmtoms are there?

Swim Bladder Disease:


Symptoms: A fish will lose its equilibrium causing the fish to swim erratically or float upside-down or sideways.

Buoyancy problems are caused by a wide variety of disorders. Deformed bladder, parasite infestation, bacterial infections and tuberculosis. Two of the more common reasons are either constipation or dry food is eaten quickly and swells up in the fish's intestine and keeps the fish from controlling its swim bladder properly. Isolating the fish to a hospital tank in which the water is shallow is a wise thing to do until the cause can be determined. The shallow water also provides relief for the fish.

maybe this will help as you only feed dry foods

ok thanks but i experimented with something.... i turned off the filter which is kinda noisy, and they imediately got out and swam... what the??? any suggestions?

ok the heater may have made them more cautious..........but what about the bloatedness???

hmm well they are still kinda fat, but thats about it. they still seem to swim straight and when i turn the filter off they are like normal... i guess theire just VERY nervous and the noise makes them freak out, but thats weird as they where never like this until now.... hmm, what can i do?
