i have a female guppy, and the woman at the shop when i bought it said she looked a bit pregnant. she's getting quite fat now, and i dont know a thing about pregnant guppies!

ive had a look at some of the other topics here, but how do i know when she is going to blow? and if i get a small baby tank to float on top, when abouts do i put her in it etc..

thanks :)

Please don't use a floating trap, it will not be big anothe to raise the fry, and very likely stress your female so much that she will die.

If you are unable to get a small 5g for breeding, then just let the fry fend for themselfs.

Let her have her babies in the tank, as them traps and nets can cause them to abort with the stress, some fry will survive if you have plenty of hiding spaces and plants, fry like floating plants at the top of the tank.

ok

i have quite a few plants in my tank, and to be honest i was going to let the first lot fend for themselves as i dont really know enough about them yet.

thanks for your advice :)

I have a plastic floating trap and it has worked out okay but I would recomend waiting untill they start to drop the fry before putting them in one. My Swords have discovered how to jump out as soon as you turn your back and then there is the whole chase scene again. This stresses the whole tank. I also have a 54 liter grow out so the fry does not need to stay in the trap for long, otherwise I do not think they(plastic traps) are the best option. I bought mine because it was all I could find at the time and my fish had already started to birth. I have used the trap for three births(13 fry(17 Dec), 24 fry(3 Jan) and 60-70 fry (today)) but am going to look at some other cheap options like DIY net traps. My wife wont let me buy anymore fish stuff for a while.
