All my other bettas are fine, including the male that shares the other side of Fants tank

He has dropsy, bad! he wasnt bloating this morning, now he is really bad with severe pine coning

Help :-(

I need to euthanise him, but i dont know how :(

The kindest way to put him down would be to put him in a little tub with his tank water, and stick it in the freezer. His metabolism will just fall and he will fall asleep peacefully. That is what I have been taught anyway, may want a second opinion on that.

I am so sorry.

quickest methods to euthenase is to slice the spine behind the head with a razor blade, not for the squeemish i guess.

or drop him into boiling water, it will kill almost instantly, but agian, not for the squeemish, as he will do a "wall of death" around the container for about 2 seconds.

there is some sort of oil or something that you can use to bath him in and it sends him to sleep and he eventualy dies, but i cant remember what its called. but ive never used it so cant vouch for its effectiveness, ive always used the razorblade method as its very quick.

This is clove oil if you have any Tamz it does work. I don't know how tough you are, there are several quick ways to do it. I don't envy you hun, sorry to hear about him x

Shell just phoned me, and she gave me a few things to do to try and help him, at present hes in epsom salt water with a strong anti internal infection, in a tank by himself

Ive lowered the water to only a few inches, and im hoping he pulls thru, i dont wana lose him xx

Oh noooooo. I'm so sorry to hear about Fantasia. Good luck and I hope he pulls through!!!!

cheers netty, i hope so, i dont wana lose the lil guy xx

You've certainly had your fair share recently........I've got everything crossed for you hun :good:

aww hun i'm so sorry. :rip:

in response to the "what did i do wrong" comment, i think that some bettas have a genetic predisposition to dropsy (maybe weak kidneys or something) i had 3 siblings in 3 different tanks, a girl in the sorority tank and 2 boys in different divided tanks. first to develop dropsy was peewee, one of the boys, then a day later i noticed that crystal his sister was starting to show signs of it, both of them died about a week later :-( a few days after that zephyr started to show signs. he is still hanging on at the moment, but is clearly getting worse so ithink i'm in the same boat as you  none of the other bettas have shown any symptoms.

so 3 siblings all developing the same problem within a week of each other, while everyone else is fine strikes me as a little odd. i still treated all the tanks with anti internal bacteria meds as a precaution, but it certainly seems like a genetic weakness to me. i realize that your fantasia is probably not related to my guys, but may have a similar genetic issue. so whatever you do don't blame yourself, its clear how much you love your bettas and what great care you take of them. *HUGS*

thats how i lost livingston, dropsy killed him he just got sicker, and unfortantly i am two squimish or optimistich i thought he would pull though. unfortantly he just couldn't fight it, poor little guy.
i hope for the best for you

thanks soo much ibble, hes in a 12 litre tank at the mo in the kitchen with a sponge filter and heater, hes perked up a little, but im not getting my hopes up, I lost Dave to this, and he never made it, but he deserves a chance

I hope he pulls thru :-(

It does seem that maybe its in their genetics maybe? I hope one day were able to treat dropsy, its horrid seeing them so hopeless xxx

hes on his side now, not good :( arghh i feel so frikkin useless :-(

Freezing is actually the worst method, the fish slowly gets ice crystals in the bloodstream, until the heart cant process it anymore, the fish then has what is best described has heart attacks and dies a slow painful death.

I usually go for the swift blow to the head

only just saw that, id never freeze, its cruel and nasty, id only use clove oil or cut behind the head

but im trying to save him for now
