Does anyone know about Zebra Plecos...

How big do they grow?

Tropical or Marine?

Are they hard to get hold of?? (Have never seen one in a shop)

Do they live on their own or in groups??

Thanks

Gemma

About 4" max

Tropical

Yes quite hard to get hold of, and somewhat expensive too.

Alone or in groups, but groups is best for breeding purposes.

I've seen a couple Zebra's in shops at £250! I think the advice is to buy from a breeder if you are serious about getting them - and also to breed them yourself if you can.....

 Are you serious? Thats like 500 Canadian, Your crazy to buy that fish :p Or you just have the extra cash I guess. If I could afford one of these fish that would be nice. But if you can afford more than one then I say go for it. Sounds like you could make a lot of cash by breeding them. I don't really know how easy they are to breed in an aquarium though. I'll check it out... Aw it says they are endangered. I would breed them and release them (from wherever the came form of course)

It doesn't sound impossible, it may take a few trys at first but it can be done... Awww the babies are so cute

No problem, they're easy to spawn though just takes a bit of time and effort. That's all.

It's now illegal to capture wild zebra plecos so that's why they're so expensive. My LFS had some that they managed to breed but they were so expensive that they couldn't sell them and had to be sold else where.

You mean it's illegal to 'export' them, preventing people capturing them isn't something that can be enforced effectively.

That doesn't make sense, if the lfs bred them then they dictate the price they are sold at...as any breeder does. Sounds like the lfs were asking for too much money then.

That's a shame, I would of loved to have some... I think they're the best looking fish I've seen but I guess that's why they come with that price tag!!

Thanks for you replies though!!

Gemma

I don't think £140 makes it much better! I will just admire them on the internet!!
