I've got my first tank up and running with 20 neon tetras and 3 swordtails.

I feed them flakes twice a day, and as I've read elsewhere I give them no more than they can eat in 2 or 3 minutes (maybe 2 normal UK Queen's head stamps in area). The flakes float around on the surface for a while before slowly sinking.

The problem is that two of the Swordtails shoot to the surface and pig out. Some of the neons also take the food while it's still on the surface, but the rest wait for it to float down and eat it before it hits the bottom.

I'm worried some of them are not getting enough to eat. Do I need to do anything to fairly distribute the food? How do I know if I am feeding them enough?

Not a problem, but they all seem to prefer the red flakes rather than the yellow ones. It all smells the same to me!

Thanks

my platys will never feed if i'm standing infront of the tank, i have to go out of the room and just peer through a gap in the door to make sure their eating, fussy things

i think if the fish arent getting food and they get hungry theyll soon head up to the top and grab some themselves.

maybe jus watch and make sure your mollys arent having a go at anyone trying to feed with them.

doubt it tho really.

i put some under the water as well that way it sinks quickly enough for the neons to get some as well as the surface feeders

Make sure you vary the diet they will appreciate a change and will be better for it. If you trawl(sorry about the pun) through the forum a lot more knowledgable people will advise on diet. I've done that and found it a great help. :alien:
