...just wondering whether anyone can tell me why a fish would become faded in the first place? Im asking because I have 4 firetail guppy males I bought from my LFS and I bought one of them because I felt sorry for it because its colour on its fins werent as vibrant as the others, so I bought it to see if I could bring its colour completely back, however im not actually sure how to go about this or if its even possible? Would it just come down to proper care?

due to stress tbh mate thats most likely the reason you could nurse it back to its original self overtime but only time will tell it either will or wont

good diet

and water conditions would be a good start

good luck

sometimes fish arent as colourful as its tank mates it might just be i its dna

I agree. If the colour is fading, it is most likely stress related. This is usually because of either water conditions or being bullied or both.

Sort out the problem and the fish's colour should come back pretty quickly.

BTT

Well the colour doesnt seem to be fading anymore since ive had it which is good :)

My current water stats are:

PH - 7.6
Ammonia - 0.25 ppm (working on getting this down)
Nitrite - 0 ppm
Nitrate - 10 ppm

With detectable ammonia in the tank, it's not surprising that the fish aren't showing their full colours. The ammonia should be your main concern at the moment. Do you know what is causing it?

Well my tap water has 0.25 ppm of ammonia in it. Although I think its down to a mini cycle aswell.

Also ill add the fish was already faded when I bought it from the LFS.

Sorry mate. I remember reading about the ammonia issue in another thread. I read so many, sometimes I forget.

It's not uncommon for fish not to show their full colours when coming from the LFS as they may have been travelling for the last 3 days or stuck in a tank which is far too small or been subjected to kids banging on the glass, to name but a few things.

However, when the fish gets into your tank at home, it should re-gain its colour assuming the conditions are right. I would guess that your fish hasn't re-gained its colour because of the ammonia. With that in mind, the ammonia should still be your main concern at the moment.

Keep us updated with the ammonia situation and don't buy any more fish until its sorted.

Cheers :good:
