Do your female bettas ever fight? Mine do occasionaly, but never come to any harm. I just 2 to square off, while a third stood by acting as a ref

I've noticed this before. 2 of my females will flare up and circle each other head to tail, while a third (or sometimes a fourth) just sits there and watches. Never had any nipping, but tis very odd. Although my females are now presenting vertical bars whenever they do this. Is this normal?

Females will fight over dominance until they've developed a pecking order. Sometimes you'll run into an extreme alfa female who may never be able to be around other females because they're too agressive. But generally there will just be small fights until dominance is established. And yes they will get vertical bars as a sign of dominance not just as a sign that they're ready to breed

Good point.

Some female bettas will find a certain ornament in the tank they like and attack any other female that gets to close or even a certain section of the tank
