I just wanted to show these pictures I took of my two spot catfish. He has taken to stealing algae wafers from my common pleco and swallowing them whole...

Here he is normally:

Here he is after he swallowed the whole wafer....

It seems to have done him no harm, despite the fact it looks really sharp!

I love these guys, they have alot of personality and are the greediest fish I'v ever kept. Its hard to find any information about them online, so if anyone has kept them before I would appreciate knowing what fish they kept with them. I am finding them incompatible with most due to their appetite! The aquarium I bought the larger catfish from was keeping him with full grown blood parrots due to the fact it had managed to eat a large angelfish.

I had some idea of where they are from, I think its Sumatra. The smaller one of mine appeared in my tank one day, and i bought the larger from Woodthorpe aquatic. I'v never seen them sold anywhere else though. I'm thinking of getting a small shoal of them. They are interesting fish to own, you should try get one.

I think there are two types of catfish with the common name 'two spot catfish.' All the websites with info I have checked say they grow to around 1 and a half inches!

I'd say the larger catfish is 4 inches. I can't find any websites that suggest Mystus bimaculatus grow any larger than that though!

they look really like asian sun cats, they get to nearly a foot n a half and are from india, they live in the same areas as a lot of the channa nelly! but getting that big you would need a big tank and for a group of them! well you would need a pool!

Sorry just seen this. I'm pretty sure my catfish isn't one of those. They do look similar though. You had me really worried for a minute!

but it says the twin spots max at about 1.5 inch, and yours is 4 inch. now if it was 2-2.5 inch you might say its just a big one! but at 4 inch now that would be pretty strange for a fish that was meant to max at 1.5 wouldn't you say.
dont meen to worry you! just i think its better to be safe than sorry! ;)

I'm starting to have doubts now lol. I'm sure the smaller one is a mystus bimaculatus, but the larger one looks more like an asian sun catfish/Horabagrus brachysoma. They look so similar! The larger cat has a deeper belly and more yellow colouration.
Please could you identify it for me:

Thanks for your help! If it turns out to be an asian sun cat I will take it back to the aquarium. You might have saved me alot of time and trouble!

im no expert on catfish by any means, its just my lfs always has these in, and i think they are stunning fish so i have done my bit of research lol.
looking at them i would suggest them to be different. the sun cats are a more yellowy green color which the larger one of your cats is!
like i said im definately no expert, and i wouldn't like to be the one to say yes its a sun cat, and you take it back, someone who knows more on the species would be better advising you!

Ok thankyou, I will post it as a seperate topic to try and find an expert who can tell me which one it is!
