If you haven't already decided, then I'd like to throw another offering into the ring.
I have a TetraTec EX700 external filter. It is the first external filter I have owned and I must say that I couldn't be happier with if. It's well made, very easy to fit, includes all required media with the filter and runs very quietly. The best thing about it though is disconnecting/reconnecting, cleaning and priming. It's an absolute doddle. The inlet/outlet pipes connect to a module that plugs into the powerhead on the filter. To disconnect, you simple switch the filter off, turn the valves on both pipes and unplug the module. I can do this without a single drop of water spilling from the filter. You can then take the entire sealed cannister to the sink or whereever for cleaning.
My model, the EX700 (700 lph) cost about £70. There are both bigger and smaller models in the range. I'm not recommending my exact model for your tank, but think it maybe worth you taking a look at the TetraTec range.
