You’re correct in both your comments about cycling and running costs (Electric).
My thoughts are if you want to speed up the time it takes to cycle your tank, buy some second hand media, but I really don’t think cycling speed should be a consideration.
The electric costs are a consideration, but I think it would take years to get back the extra unit costs.
I have no experience on tetratecs, so can't comment on these. But certainly the Ehiem and Fluval are well over specified for your tank. For biological filtration, remember you can only grow as much bacteria as the ammonia you produce, so over specifying a filter for biological filtration is a pure waste.
However, when it comes to mechanical filtration, you can never go too big, basically the bigger you go, the less you need to hover......
The point on running two filters is a good one, and I have been considering this for a while. However, if I were to buy a second filter it would be another FX5, as you can get two FX5 for the same price as the Eheim.
