External Filter Help

hi all

i just bought a fluval 205 external filter with every thing apart from media

well the problem is that is states its got '' rim connectors are split ''

how easy is this to fix, i heared you can buy some sort off putty

also as ill be fitting a new media. will i kill my fish as it will be new and no bactria help on tjis would be great

i take it the filter is 2nd hand if its damaged.... not sure what "rim connectors" are but it sounds like the lever that holds the powerhead to the canister... if so this could be trouble if it doesnt seal properly, im not sure i would trust it! you may be able to get a replacement but not 100%

regrding the media just put your media from your current filter in the external and nothing will change, you will still have enough bacteria to cope with your current fish load

Rim connectors are the parts that hold attach the filter hose to the side of the tank. Just replace the Fluval hose with regular stuff and buy other rim adapters/work out your own, or buy new Fluval parts.

If you use new media and this us replacing a mature filter...then yes, the tank will cycle again and the fish will probably die.

Just run your old filter a long side this one for a few months, or take the media out of your old filter and put it in the baskets of the 205, if it doesn't fit just chop it up.

what do the rim connectors look like as i never owned a external filter b4. also do you knw 4 any good links that show and got a step by step on this so i have a rough idea what to do.
