I had just got back from My local fish store after purchasing a Dawrf Aqautic frog for my betta tank and two Rasbora fish for my low tech planted tank. After hanging both bags in the tank i was looking around my planted tank at the other occupants : 4 white cloud minows, 5 sunset platty fry, and 2 Algae eating shrimp, One of my shrimp had been doing alot of molting the past weeks and had grown quite large compared to the other shrimp. And today i noticed that the larger shrimp had a very large growth on the back of his tail area, When i looked closer the growth looked alot like tons of tiny balls in groups under his "swimerlettes" (sp?).
After doing a little bit of searching on the internet i do beleive that i will be excpecting some little ones. So i am preparing a 1 gal hatchery tank soon to isolate the pregnant shrimp. I just need to condition the water now and add some new plants, and buy some micro food i will hopefully have pictures on later today i had a hard time getting a good close up of the eggs.

Any ideas on caring for the Shirimp Fry feel free to share.
Thanks DarkerWhite

Wow ,breeding shrimp...good luck.Sorry i don't know anything about them

I have heard, although I don't know the validity of this information, that the baby shrimps will need salted water.

Like I said I'm not certain of the validity of this

as far as i know, they are born/hatch little versions of the adult shrimp, eat the same, act the same but in smaller ways. ofcorse make nice little snacks for most fish but kept on their own, should grow up well. more research is needed tho as i havent had any experience.good luck, cant wait for pics

Ya ive read that they require some micro food at first because of their size and i have set up a seperate tank for the mother, because your right they do make nice snacks for fish, although the planted tank dones have very small peacefull fish im not taking chances, im pretty excited, and i just need to upload the pics to my photo bucket account if i can find it :p then ill post them

What sort of "algae shrimp".... amano, ghost etc. Have larval fry, which feed on microscopic foods and require brackish to marine conditions. Cherry and crystal red cherry etc. Have fry as miniature adults I believe.

Of the two most common sorts of shrimp, cherries hatch into miniature shrimplets, which - provided you find some way to protect from the filter as well as fish eating them, will grow to adulthood. Amano shrimp, on the other hand, are all but impossible to bring to term in captivity, as they hatch into planktonic forms, which need full-strength seawater and special food.

Since you mentioned green eggs, my guess is you have Amano.

If you want to breed Amano shrimp (if that's what you mean by Algae Shrimp), you will need full salt water to hatch the zoe (baby shrimp) I'm afraid. Here's a profile I did on them and here's my breeding attempt.

Good luck if you go down that route :good:

None of mine ever carried(s) green eggs - though I've heard that some do. So green eggs are not definite.

The eggs acually look white or clear, and from pictures ive seen id say a ghost shrimp She is very translucent and had just started to show some brown coloration on her back. Like i said i will post pictures soon so you all can have a gander :D thanks for the input and i have a 1 gal set up for her with plants and no filter im going to do daily water changes when i move her over

If indeed ghost shrimp, look for some posts by "Native American" - he has some threads on breeding them.

They are however not algae eating shrimp.

The eggs are located at the rear of the shrimp, and in these photos look like legs but those are the white eggs under the "swimmerletts" (sp?) and i had alot of trouble getting the shrimp in focus but hopefully now someone can help my identify what type of shrimp these are.

Thanks alot :D
