I found it in the claws of my female fiddler crab! Very unusual behavior for her. Do members with more experience think it's possible she killed it, or is it most likely the fish was dead first and she's just snacking?

Could only hazard a guess that the fish was on its way out, fiddler crabs are quite slow and females dont have particularly large claws do they?

How do they get on in freshwater tanks? I thought they were Marine and required a degree of salt in the water? Thats what put me off getting some. They are quite...odd

Have you seen this happen before? She's been picking at the fish since I first noticed, jealously guarding it. I'm afraid of an ammonia spike ...?

I dont think you would have to worry about an ammonia spike for one fish.

I've never owned any crabs but i have done a fair bit of reading into them and for it to sit there snacking on it probably wont cause any problems, but if she drops it, you might want to scoop it out. She probably thinks its her birthday

Yes, there is a bit of salt. But thanks for reminding me ... I need to add some more after a gazillion water changes!
